Contemporary Street Portraiture
Overview
This workshop is about bringing together all the many skills and devices available to a visual storyteller. Specifically we'll be looking at the art and craft of 'street portraiture'. It is about experimenting with the visual effect and meaning or both the figure on the environment and the environment on the figure. We'll be delving a little deeper than simple snaps of passers-by, and looking carefully at how we can tell a story, using both the subject we are photographing and the visual design of their surroundings. We'll look at how the surroundings you're shooting in, both contextually and visually can create very different messages and stories, and how these two elements can be combined to work together successfully.
Over two days you'll be learning how to approach people in the street, and how to comfortably develop a good working relationship with them 'in the moment'. We'll be experimenting with form, content, light and composition to create a meaningful portrait that will transform the ordinary into something special.
